Our Very 1st Christmas Miracle Story
Back in 2003, my wife and I were small business owners when that insane ice storm hit- and we came close to losing everything. It was a feeling that I’ll never forget because we were helpless to change our own fate alone, while our pride was simply too big to ask for help.
A Last Ditch Effort to Save Christmas
The city finally gave us the “all clear” to re-open on Christmas Eve, which really wasn’t enough time to do anything. We opened nonetheless, with the goal of working as late as possible and then taking every last penny to Walmart for last minute Christmas gifts for our children.
Well, nothing went to plan- our business didn’t have a single customer for the first three hours. In fact, the only person who stopped by was a local pastor, who overheard my wife and I discussing our dilemma.
I approached the pastor and he said that he just stopped by to wish my family a Merry Christmas- then abruptly walked out the door. It was perplexing to say the least…but now I fully understand his intentions. Because once we finally gave up and left that night, there was $300 stuck under my windshield wipers with a note reading “Merry Christmas.”
To this day, I can’t tell you for a fact that the pastor left that money. I saw him several months later though and he refused to talk about the matter, saying that the true miracle of Christmas is selfless giving to those who need it the most.
So in the spirit of that pastor, my wife and I have decided to keep our names off of this website. Everything we do for local families each Christmas is in “Secret Santa” style- local churches nominate families who need assistance and we fund-raise on their behalf.
How You Can Help!
Each holiday season, we try to help as many families as possible in the Upstate, South Carolina area. That requires four distinct types of assistance- monetary donations, volunteers to shop/wrap gifts/etc, corporate partnerships for supplies and skilled workers that can help with some type of specialty need (build something, fix something, etc.).
